Afrivet and other professionals and students from the medical, veterinary, socio-economic and environmental health sectors to address the issue of Neurocysticercosis, a condition that requently results in epilepsy in people in the rural Eastern Cape of South Africa. This is most certainly a multi-factorial problem, requiring input from all fields. The high infection-rate of the local free-ranging pig populations, lack of proper hygienic toilet facilities in many of the rural schools, poor cooking of meat together have resulted in tapeworm becoming a major human health risk.
